How To Buy Forti Goods Smart Lock Furniture

5 Things To Consider When Shopping for Your Forti Goods Piece

Forti Goods furniture is designed to fit the specific needs of each individual who owns a piece. That means some details and specifications are customizable, so unlike your usual online furniture shopping experience, you can pick more than just the color of your piece.

From wood type, color, and lock count customizations to custom design options, there’s a lot to decide on before adding a piece to your cart. This blog will explore five important things to consider when shopping for your Forti Goods piece so you can browse our collection with confidence and make sure you’re getting exactly what you want and need for your space.

But before diving into those five things, the first question you’re going to want to ask yourself is why am I buying this piece? Or, in other words, what is my goal with this piece of furniture? What am I trying to accomplish with it? With your “why” narrowed down, the rest of these considerations will easily fall into place.

1: Consider Where Your New Forti Goods Piece Will Live

Knowing where your new Forti Goods piece of furniture will live is going to influence every other customization. Since our furniture doubles as lockable storage, the main question you want to ask yourself is where in the house is what I’m storing typically used?

For example, if you’re looking for locking furniture to store important documents, the office or an entryway or hallway are probably your best options for placing your new piece. Important documents aren’t usually used daily, so they don’t necessarily need to be in a convenient location. They just need to be kept safe and at the ready. While our locking furniture isn’t fire or waterproof, most pieces are spacious enough to store your important documents within a fire/waterproofcontainer so you can quickly grab what you need in case of evacuation

If you need to lock up personal items that are used frequently, like prescription meds, jewelry, or personal pleasure devices, your piece will probably work best in the bedroom. Ultimately, the items you’re storing will likely be the deciding factor on where your piece will live. They’ll also influence the next thing you should consider when buying locking furniture: size.

2: Take Into Account the Size of What You’re Storing

The size of your Forti Goods piece is the next thing to consider, and that also comes down to what you’re storing in your locking furniture. If you want to store larger items, like firearms or a wine collection, you’ll need something large like our smart-locking credenzadisplay cabinet, or chest. If you’re storing smaller things, like electronics or medications, smaller pieces like our coffee and end tables will do the trick without taking up too much space. You can also try out our bar cabinet for smaller items. With a contemporary take on the iconic vintage drop-door bar cabinet, it works as an actual bar or as a secure place for personal items.

One important detail to remember here is the height of what you’re storing. The shelves in Forti Goods pieces are adjustable, so you can move them up and down to account for height, but you may want a larger piece if the items you’re storing are tall. And remember that whatever you’re storing may shift if it’s in a drawer.

Also, keep in mind how your piece may be used throughout the years. All of our locking furniture is handmade with sustainable materials, so they’re designed to last lifetimes. As your home and life go through changes, you may move your piece around or swap out what you’re storing, so consider a size that you can grow with.

3: Decide on Your Lock Count

Each Forti Goods piece comes equipped with at least one app-controlled lock, and as long as you purchase a piece with more than one drawer, you have the option to add more locks at any time. Most people are happy with our standard lock count, but depending on what you’re storing or how your piece grows with your lifestyle, you may want an extra smart lock or two.

Adding locks to your furniture isn’t as difficult as it might sound. It takes very little time, and all you’ll need is a screwdriver and our lock expansion kit. Any lock you add will work with your Forti Goods app just like the original lock your piece came with.

4: Determine Your Wood Type and Stain

With the location of where your locking furniture will live narrowed down, determining the wood type and stain of your piece is easy. Take a look around the room—what’s the dominant wood finish in the room? Do you want to match it or create some visual contrast? Could the area benefit from an accent piece with a pop of color?

If you decide you want your piece to have color, make sure you consider color in the room atall times of the day. As the day progresses, lighting will change in your space which will directly impact how your color looks and feels in the space. Bold colors in smaller rooms can make the room feel smaller, but lighter colors in a large space can get lost. Make sure you’re intentional with your design choices.

5: Organize the Contents of Your Piece

Without proper organization, the compartments of your beautiful locking furniture can quickly become just another junk drawer.

For storing smaller items, like plant medicine, we offer a variety of accessories that can help keep items safe. Our trays  fit in all our drawers and neatly hold all sizes of our blocksboxes, and jars. And, if you’re feeling sentimental, you can add a custom engraving to most trays, boxes, and blocks.

For larger items that rarely change like alcohol, firearms, or sentimental items, we can create custom inserts and dividers for your drawers so everything is safe, snug, and perfectly organized. Reach out to us at hi@fortigoods.com for more details about custom organization.
